Quick Tulip Centerpiece
Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in Decorating, Home
Is it already time for spring flowers?! I've been seeing tulips and daffodils in grocery stores the past few weeks, and, well, I'm not sure I like this. It's like seeing Christmas stuff in the stores in August. TOO SOON, PEOPLE! I want to get spring fever when the time is right. Otherwise, sitting through three more months of Seattle winter gloom after catching glimpses of smiley daff faces just seems like a twisted and cruel joke.
Okay fine, I know I'm being a little dramatic. Or a lot. Either way, truth is, I couldn't help but pick up a bunch of sunny yellow tulips. I stuck them in a rustic terracotta pot for an easy and quick centerpiece.
And when I say easy, I mean easy. Like, I'm not even sure why I'm going so far as to give instructions easy. But I guess I will anyway.
First: Prepare the flowers. Trim the ends off, but keep the leaves on – they add fullness.
Then put 'em in a drinking glass. Just make sure first that the drinking glass fits into the pot. (The purpose of the glass is twofold: 1) The pot may absorb the water, depending on the material and 2) It helps keep the flowers more tightly together.
Put the drinking glass of flowers into the pot.
It's a good thing I took a photo of this. I know it would have been very difficult to understand otherwise.
And then… move the flowers around until they're how you like them.
Done!
Now go forth and dream of spring. I suppose it'll be here soon enough.
