It’s easy and fun to make wholesome homemade dog treats. Pumpkin Dog Biscuits are the perfect fall “cookie” for your pooch – pureed pumpkin is packed with good-for-them (and us) stuff, and from what I can tell, dogs surprisingly love the stuff.
Alien O’Lanterns Have Landed!
Saturday, October 30, 2010 in Decorating, Home
Not gonna lie, here. I had a heck of a time coming up with a Jack O’Lantern idea this year. Last year, my choice of Owl O’Lantern was clear – my obsession with owls had hit an all-time high, so creating my own rotund orange number was a no brainer. This year, I just wasn’t [...]
Weekend in Leavenworth
Thursday, October 28, 2010 in Exploring, Life
Leavenworth, Washington is a perfect destination for weekend getaway. It’s close enough to Seattle – just about 2 1/2 hours – to make a terrific day trip, too. We recently spent a weekend in this old-world Bavarian Alpine village, and had a blast wine tasting, eating (and more eating), and soaking in the gorgeous fall colors.
Sweet, Spicy, and Savory Pumpkin Seeds
Saturday, October 23, 2010 in Appetizers, Food, Gruntworthy for Guys, Holidays, Vegetarian
Sweet, Spicy, and Savory Pumpkin Seeds have been my go-to pumpkin seed recipe this year. They have a blissfully addicting – if not slightly (but deliciously) strange – combo of rosemary, cinnamon, cayenne and black peppers, and salt. And they’re especially perfect with a nice cold winter ale.
Free Art for the Taking
Thursday, October 21, 2010 in Decorating, Home
Sometimes I’m really ridiculously proud of something I’ve created. And that pride leads to me being a little obnoxious. Maybe a lot obnoxious, depending on how much you like me (or don’t). In this case, I took a photo of a flower out in the backyard, and within an hour it was up on my [...]
Maple Pumpkin Oat Muffins with Cinnamon-Maple Glaze
Wednesday, October 20, 2010 in Breads, Breakfast, Food, Holidays, Kid Friendly, Vegetarian
These muffins have the most amazing crown – and they taste terrific, too. The pureed pumpkin helps keep the spiced batter moist; the brown sugar and maple syrup kiss the muffins with just the right amount of sweetness – not too much, though, because you’ve got Cinnamon Maple Glaze going on, too. Oh yeah.
Crock Pot Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal
Friday, October 15, 2010 in Breakfast, Food, Fruit, Vegetarian
Another recipe! Perfectly cooked apple cinnamon steel-cut oats, which, thanks to your Crock Pot, is cooked overnight right in the bowl. What do I think this thing is, a food blog or something?!
Well, yeah, kinda – I guess it practically is, especially these days. I’m definitely getting back into the swing of things around the house [...]
Crock Pot Easy Cheesy Chili Mac
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 in Adaptetarian, Carnivores, Cheese, Food, Gruntworthy for Guys, Kid Friendly, Main Dishes, Pasta, Vegetarian
Some dinners lack a little, shall I say, class… but more than make up for it in tasty, dig-innable, comforting pure deliciousness.
I think we can all be pretty clear on which side we’ll find Crock Pot Easy Cheesy Chili Mac. Elegant it’s not. Yummy? Oooooh yes. It’s comfort food at its best, perfect for a blustery rainy night after a long, long day [...]
Salsa! Salsa!
Thursday, October 7, 2010 in Canning and Preservation, Food, Gluten Free, Sauces, Jams, and Condiments, Vegetarian
Last year at around this time, we were overflowing with tomatoes from our garden. Some of the vines, I swear, were 10 feet high. Our windowsills were stuffed with ripening tomatoes of every shape and size. We slow-roasted tons of Romas and cherries (delicious), tried fire-roasting a whole barbecue full of heirlooms (less successful), and ate lots of margarita pizzas on the barbecue. We even discovered out in our 12′ by 12′ Eden a freakish tomato that taught me much about the power of positive thinking. And we whipped up and canned huge, wonderful, delicious batches of spicy salsa. [...]
