Top 10 of 2010: His & Hers Edition

It’s the time of year for reflection, optimism, resolutions and top 10 lists! My grunting* guy and I decided to pick our top five and consolidate these into a list of our very favorite foods posted on The Hazel Bloom this past year. And here they are!

*Grunting refers to gruntworthy – my guy, and the occasional all-male tasting panel, deem these foods gruntworthy (that’s a really, really good thing).

My Guy’s Faves

1. Fire-Roasted Artichokes with Chipotle Aioli
We discovered this year that fire-roasted artichokes are sublime. Especially on a hot day and with a nice cold glass of rosé. “What’s not to like?” my guy says. “Spicy, interactive… it’s good!”

2. Fruit Salad with Honey-Lime Dressing
I was somewhat surprised to see this on my guy’s list. First a vegetable, and then a fruit? Maybe a chick can change her guy after marriage! What does he have to say about it? “Nummy, nummy in my tummy.” Okay, maybe only some things can be changed. (Love ya babe!)

3. Pizza on the Barbecue
This pizza is all about the crust, deliciously chewy inside and crisp on the outside, cooked to perfection on the barbecue. My guy says, “It combines two of the greatest things ever… pizza and barbecue! Fire… easy to cook… fire…”

4. Slow-Cooked BBQ Chicken Sandwiches
He says, “Put it in the Crock Pot, go away, come back and you have a meal! Tangy barbecue sauce and chicken on a nice toasty roll… ” and then he trailed off and started watching TV again. But you get the point.

5. Dark Chocolate Macaroons
“They’re DARK CHOCOLATE MACAROONS! Dark chocolate, which is tasty… in the shape of a macaroon!”

My Faves

1. Fire-Roasted Artichokes with Chipotle Aioli
Looks like both of us are equally fond of these bad boys. Mmmm… can’t wait for summer.

2. Pizza on the Barbecue
We both love this, too! It’s perfect for our mixed carnie/veggie household.

3. Pumpkin Pancakes with Buttermilk Caramel Syrup and Toasted Hazelnuts
Part of why this made this list is because I was so excited to finally come up with a pumpkin pancake recipe I love. The other part is, holy crap, add this syrup and some toasted hazelnuts and breakfast is simply out of this world.

4. Homemade Applesauce
This story brings back memories of one seriously epic, apple-filled day in the kitchen. We’re still enjoying the, um, fruits of my labor. I love homemade applesauce.

5. Hot Buttered Rum Bread Pudding Muffins
Though I probably have to limit these to the holiday season, my mouth will continue to water over the memory. These things are incredible.

And there you have it! Happy New Year to you and yours. Lots of love to you all!

Your guy says “interactive” to describe food? Wow.

The last item is (and has been) bookmarked.

I know, right?! After he said that, I looked up and said, “Damn! You’re good at this!”

And then he said “Yummy yummy in my tummy.”

Everything on both your lists looked fantastic. I can see why your husband went for that fruit with the honey lime syrup though. Wow, the picture was amazing. I’m looking forward to what 2011 has to bring to the culinary blogging world!
