Queen Mary Tea Room, Hipstamatic Style
Saturday, January 15, 2011 in Exploring, Food, Life, Restaurants
The past couple of months, I’ve had the fabulous fortune of working at a really fun company, with some great (and talented) fellow writers, Darrah, J.T. and Liz (whose second book is coming out this spring; talented indeed).
The four of us convened this weekend morning at Seattle’s Queen Mary, a wonderful tea room that, until now, I’d only ever admired from afar. I’d driven by the ivy-covered exterior countless times over the years, thinking, someday I’ve gotta try that place and that maybe someday I’d get around to it.
That’s a bit of a trend for me, actually. Like how someday, maybe, I’d upgrade my phone, but really no biggie. But with a little prodding from my guy (who recently figured out how to turn the TV off with his iPhone, ’nuff said), I upgraded my oh-so ancient 2G iPhone to a 3GS model.
With my brand spankin’ new iPhone, I can take photos via the Hipstamatic app. It’s cool. Super cool.
And so, here I bring you the wonderful girliness of this lovely tea room through the lens of the literally rough-around-the-edges Hipstamatic.
—
The ivy exterior had beaded garland weaved throughout it. And from somewhere, doves – two real mourning doves, apparently – cooed at me as I entered. Seriously.
Once inside, coat checked, elegant table waiting … I sat down to my empty and oh-so fancy little teacup.
“Do you ladies have any questions?”
“Um, yes,” I said, poring over a selection of probably 100 different teas. “How do I chose?!”
I selected a flavored variety of black tea, jackfruit. And it was good.
J.T. went for the Irish Breakfast with honey…

While Liz selected a vanilla variety that smelled amazing as her pot passed by.
Darrah went for the pina colada (tea, that is).
I had crumpets, my first ever, and a must-have alongside tea, of course. Yum, especially with their hand-churned butter (and lovely orange marmalade).

I also ordered a weird omelette: Strawberries and brie. It was good. But a little weird.
The fresh fruit alongside? Simply amazing. Fresh and delicious. No gratuitous three cubes of honeydew here.

They still had Christmas decorations up. I loved it. They had bird Christmas decorations.
So… there ya go. Seattle’s Queen Mary Tea Room = wonderful. The Hipstamatic = cool. My weekend = good. I hope yours has been, too.

The first time I went here was for a Mother daughter day with one of my really good friends and her mom. It was fantastically lovely! Glad you enjoyed yourself.

Sounds like a good first visit, Mikaela! I’m not sure there’s any place more perfectly girly. I need to bring my nieces back, stat. :)

That looks like a really fun trip. Love the omelet. Kind of looks like some sort of crepe or something. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
