3 Places To See in Cancun

Cancun is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Mexico. While it is well-known as a destination for college students off on spring break, it is much more than a party center for young adults and teenagers. It boasts beautiful coastlines and natural wonders, ancient ruins and plenty of shopping centers. It is possible to go snorkeling during the day, visit an ancient city in the afternoon and sip a frosty margarita while enjoying the peace and quiet of a tranquil beach to wind down in the evening.

1. Isla Mujeres

A lovely place to see during a stay in Cancun, Isla Mujeres is a tranquil paradise packed with beautiful white sand beaches surrounded by clear water. Make sure to see the Hacienda Mundaca, which was built by Fermin Mundaca, a famous pirate. MUSA is an attraction comprised of underwater sculptures that were placed in an attempt to counteract climate change. Whether staying in a hotel or on a piece of personally owned Cancun real estate, Isla Mujeres is a short trip away.

2. Chichen Itza

One of the seven wonders of the world, Chichen Itza is an ancient Mayan city containing the grand Kukulkan Pyramid. With four square miles to wander through, it is a pleasure to stroll along the ancient avenues and see the old buildings and wonderful sculptures. As an active archeological site, new discoveries are constantly unearthed that shed light on the daily lives and culture of the ancient Mayan people. Be immersed in the surroundings and imagine what it was like to live in such a magnificent city more than two thousand years ago.

3. Mercado 28

If shopping is at the top of the to-do list, then head to Mercado 28. In downtown Cancun, there are about 600 vendors set up in a flea market style shopping center. Fantastic souvenirs can be purchased for everyone back at home. Many vendors craft their own handcrafted wares, making them unique and memorable. Bargaining is expected, so be prepared to haggle for a good deal. Be prepared to walk away and see if the vendor offers to go even lower than expected.

There is something for everyone in Cancun, no matter what activities they enjoy. Small groups can meander around and see whatever interests them, or large groups can splinter off to enjoy different activities during the day. Just be sure to gather everyone together for a delicious dinner in the evening.
